The company, which is privately owned, was established in 2011 with the intent of producing a modular system of pre-fabricated housing.
Simpson Architects were commissioned in that year to begin the design process.
Their brief was to design a single module that could be used for a variety of functions and had qualities that set it apart from other modular systems.
In response “Envirodome” evolved, a precast concrete unit with inherent strength, great internal volume, thermal mass and flexibility belying its construction.
Late 2011 the design was registered.
Contrasting the simplicity of the modules, the steel moulds were complex items. A Mechanical Engineer, Todd Simpson of “Fulcrum Systems” was engaged to detail the moulds and also provided advice on the production process.
Albury/Wodonga was selected as the production zone due to the centrality between the states and the direct access to the Hume Freeway.
